Welsh Young Singer of the Year Results are in!

By -

Twenty talented competitors took part in the preliminary round of the Welsh Young Singer of the Year Competition on Saturday 11th March and we are thrilled that our very own Elysia Coates has been placed 5th and reserve finalist.

Elysia sang ‘She Used to be Mine’ from the musical ‘Waitress’ and ‘Gimme Gimme’ from ‘Thoroughly Modern Mille’.

Her song from ‘Waitress’ was particularly impressive and filled with emotion…a superb musical theatre performance which touched the audience. It was lovely to hear Elysia sing the iconic song from ‘Millie’ which offered the Musical Theatre loving audience a little taste of what will be a superb performance, when she plays the role of ‘Millie’ in our production this July.

Most of the competitors were graduates from top music schools and conservatories, so for Elysia to get this far was impressive!

the four finalists for the competition will be:

Ben Morgan Thomas, from Treboeth, studying at Gower College.

Kate McKeown, from Dublin, studying at RWCMD.

Lynwen Haf Roberts, from Cardiff, graduated from Trinity St. Davids University.

Grace-Marie Wyatt, from Staffordshire, studying at RWCMD.

The Final takes place at the Taliesin Arts Centre, Swansea at 7 p.m. on Saturday 22nd April 2017.

We look forward to supporting these young Musical Theatre performers and hope to see many of our students and followers there!
